Don't underestimate the power of a fan

just to show you what kind of power rotating mass has...

i needed to reseal my alternator stand and got a nice surprise when pulling the alt assembly out. looks like my oil cooler holddown spring came loose and got sucked into the fan. must have happened on my way back from the last show. had no clue. the attached pics are the aftermath. not horrible, but that was just a little piece of metal.

Man that's gotta hurt! At least you found it now. I have two spare "dog house fans" (non welded) if you need one.

actually, the fan was fine. i got everything sorted out and put back together today. will fire it up tomorrow and check again for leaks. it was a good excuse to clean up the engine bay anyway. it was overdue.
