Question Seat frame dimensions?

Does anyone have quick access to a measuring tape? I need to know the dimensions of the frame of a type 1 seat. I have an opportunity to get a good deal on seats from an Audi A4 (leather, heat, power, etc) and want to know if they will fit in a Beetle. The frame of the Audi seats are 22 inches wide at the base and the side bolsters are about the same.

If someone gets a chance, could you measure this for me? I don't have my car out here at school, otherwise I would do it myself.

I just went out and measured and the width of the VW seat frame from rail to rail is 15 1/2".

Thanks very much for your assistance. I guess that answers my question as to whether they would fit. It would have been soooo nice to have the comfort of those seats though. Does anyone have recommendations for modern seats with heat, etc that would actually fit?

If you have the cash some 911 seats would fit pretty nice I guess.

22" might fit, it may be a bit tight at the E-brake handle . I adapted some seats from a 2003 Celica GTS onto the bottom frames of the bug seats (to get the correct rise) with 1/8"x2" flat stock welded across the top of the bug bottom frame to come out to 18" and weld up with the bottom of the Celica seat frames (made to bolt to the floor and would have been too low) it came out just right. The new seats are 19" across and fit great. And I have double adjustment forward and aft.

Cool

Our 82 scirocco seats fit and the controls are still accessible. they are 22" at the widest. there is not much room from the door to the side bolster (1/2")

Thanks for that picture. That may be the most helpful for me. So, it looks like that 22" measurement is taken at the seat adjustment knob. That looks like the widest part to me. If that is so, those Audi seats may fit. Now I have to rethink this again.

Recarros

I installed a set of recarros from a 92 GTI in my standard. I welded the vw palatform right to the seat, looks great, and comfortable, the audi seats will fit with a little work.
