Questions about subaru conversion products.

Hello Alex,

I am looking at adding a Subaru Ej20T or Ej20TT engine conversion to my 1975 1303 and I wanted to ask you some questions about your products.

1. I have a 911/01 transmission that I am planning to use. I know that the Subaru Ej20T will require me to move the transmission forward because the engine is longer. Will I need to cut out the torsion bars if I purchase your control shaft cover for the transmission?

2. What are the dimensions of the radiator for the Ej20T conversion? How did you get air to it if it is placed behind the rear seat? Did you vent the hot air into the engine compartment?

Thanks,
Randy

Randy please send me your email..

I can best answer and describe via pictures..

Also your engine choice may be a little to much for that tranny.. I notice you want to go turbo..

With our kit no need to cut the torsion bar, I will highlight this to you better once I can email you info..

How about the nose-cone for the 915 transmission?

I'm planning to install a Scooby powerplant in my Ghia with the 915 trans. Will I have to cut the torsion tube with that?

I know my Ghia has more engine bay room than the Beetle but I want to try to get the transmission as far foward as possible without hacking up my torsion bar mounts.

Oh whatever will I do

Hi,

the EJ 20 T is not longer than a type 1 engine. But the problems most people have are the DOHC-heads. They are very high and by this they stand against the back of the car. That´s the reason, why everyboy who installs an EJ 20 T must bring the engine forward.
The 901 will dfinitely not stand the torque of this engine. We always use 915 gearboxes for this conversion. With my nose cone the gearbox comes 20 mm forward (compared to original). You have to grind the torsion tubes a little thinner if you use my nose cone in the 1303.
For Karmann usage nothing has to be grinded or cut out.

Our radiator does not sit in the back, but in the front of the 1303. It is about 60 x 20 x 20 cm.

But Martin,

The Ghia doesn't have the same issues with vertical clearance in the engine bay. So I wouldn't have to move the assembly forward as much is what I'm getting from you correct?

The main purpose of your nose cone is for fitting the engine/trans assy forward in the Beetles right?

What radiator solutions have you come up with for the Ghias?

Do you have any pictures of your coolant line runs?

Thanks Martin

Martin

Info sent..

Let me know what you think and feel free to ask question.

Also something else to consider is the shifter that you would like to use?
Pics enclosed of the 901/914 shifter in a car. Physically similar to 915 but the shift patter is different for 915. There is another option with a 911 base if you wanted a slanted gear lever..

Happy to help.
