My new door panel idea

This is something I've been messing with for a while and I wouldn't be surprised if something similar's been done before, but I finally figured out a way to make it work where
it will be durable and realy cheap. I take print, mount it on
a board and then stick it in a vaccum press under lots of pressure...then I coat it w/ clear acrylic gell medium, let dry and cover the edges with rubber lining and stick it on.
The pic is just a photoshop tryout...'til I take pictures.
I used push anchors kinda like the ones on the real panels, but the ones I used show on the other side like a screw head and you have to precut all the holes.
Another plus is they are super light (lighter than the real panels).

Let me know what you guys think.
My dad wants me to do his car in "Beatles" black and whites!

Dude, I like it. You think you could do up a set with Bumblebee from The Transformers?

I'll take a set with porsche logos.

Seriousley that is an awesome idea. If you feel like making some extra sets I might be interested in porsche logo or VW logo.

Or maybe Storm Shadow on one panel and Snake Eyes on the other. I'm interested in a set too.

Ok guys just for you...

This photoshop stuff takes some time...so enjoy it while it lasts! =)
Anyway...the only hassle with doing it the way I am is that there has to be a poster big enough to fit the door panel area. If you can find one that is proportional then there isn't a problem. I'm not saying it;s impossible, but it'll deffinitely cost more to get an image custom made.
I 've haven't figured out the cost for me to make one for someone else...I'll know once I figure out the time it takes, but thus far all ya gotta do is find a poster (usually pretty cheap) and then I can stick on, coat it and send it out, i guess for that it'd be pretty inexpensive (maybe $20-$30?)
Maybe that sounds costly...unless ya want to cut the wholes out yerself and figure a way to mount it on?
Anyway...Ijust hadn't thought about sellin' them...but now I'm considering it so let me know what you think is a fair price. I still have to test them out and see just how durable they are...I've mounted tons of stuff this way and it lasts forever, but no one's ever kicked them or used 'em on doors...heheh!
Hope you like 'em! at least you'll know what it "could" look like.

I'm now realizing I should spend more time in the interior forum. The ideas y'all come up with are truly amazing.

That's real cool, I hope they work out.
they are a neat idea. but i'm still trying to figure out a color scheme of my car, but as soon as i figure that out I'll talk to you about some cool door panels

I'm thinking the body i would like a bright Green, vw has a paint, apple green. i've seen on a car and it looks Great. but i'll keep working on the over-all theme

Talking Sure..I guess.

Did you have any particular image in mind?
My intention is to sell these. I'm making them dirt cheap, but I do want a profit. All the money goes straight back into my car. I'm a poor student so anything I can think of to scratch by is my goal. Plus...How else wil I afford to get that rag top mod!? heh.
So if ya just want to see what yer doors will look like with a certain image...sure I can photoshop ya one, but I can do it for real too!

i just want to see what some that you've done look like, they're really cool. I wnat to make some by myself, but i woulnd't want to steal your stuff. i bet you could do this for a bunch of different cars and make a lot of money and keep yourself occupied. you should set yourself up with a website or soemthing. they really are a very cool cusom mod. anyway, if you could post some pictures, maybe i'll order something up from you. you could probably do other things like dashes and sunvisors

sweet job, keep it up!
