Potential Group buy Camber Plates SB, please read

After reading many posts about camber issues with using the Maxx Struts or similiar and the 944 spindles.. I decided to contact a reputable vendor on the scooby side. He is experienced with 944, and Subarus. He recently as been trying to address an issue for the subaru folks about camber plates that do not increase front ride height, which is a result of the front top mount design.

I decided to contact Myles from http://racecompengineering.com/ to see if he would be interested in looking at our problem space and be willing to work with us. He is located in MD which is not to from me in NJ. I offered to send him what ever he would need ie strut tops early and late and struts.. as well as we could leverage from some of the road going vehicles to get better opinions..

From speaking with him.
I spoke to my partner and we would need a minimum order of 25 or these to do this, otherwise its not cost effective. I know the price would be about the same as the Subaru is now at 395.00 for a set of fronts.

We have MANY projects in the works, and a coilover shootout for a magazine coming up. This isnt really our market, BUT, we like the idea. If you think you can get this type of interest in advance and get people interested would be consider it.

Let me know your thoughts.

best regards,

Myles Williams

I have enclosed some pics of the subaru ones so that you all could see the quality of product that Myles does.. He is a very reputable vendor on the boards and a fellow racer, so he understands function over form..

Let me know what you think, and if we could get 25 people then we may have a shot.

PS I have nothing to gain here.. Just trying to help solve problems.. The above number is a planning number, we would have to factor shipping from MD to where ever.. I invite the overseas folks also..

If we need to we can open this to the superbeetleonly guys.. I am hoping that we can design on top mount that will work with both early and late.. but we will have to see where the interest lies..

Let me know.. and lets toss ideas around..
Cheers.

Hmm, very interested.

Would need to be compatible with the kerscher bits I have though.

Cheers,

Samcat,

Not sure what that would entail but If possible we can work that into the design..

This is just preliminary inquiry, so anything is possible.. He would probably base them off the stock ones, to fit onto stock struts and maxx.. but that is because that is what i have in the basement..

Not sure how different the requirment is for Kersher compatible mounts..

Good comment thought.. and that is what we need..

As we get more we can stream line and see what the folks have come up with..

I am interested in the group buy.

Now I just have to figure out if I will tell my wife before I buy them or beg forgiveness afterward.

Another thought is if your using a strut brace you wont have enough thread (going by your second picture)... Need at least 2 full threads exposed for strength. I could measure thickness of my strut brace plates if you need.

Cheers,
Sam C

Anothe brilliant idea.. thanks.. If you have some pics of the Kersher top mounts that would be helpful.. as well as the threads..

So far, things that we need to be conserned with:
1) Compatibility between Kersher, Maxx and Stock struts.

2) Compatibility between early and late model SB.

3) Long enough threads for strut bar.

So far member showing interest..

Thanks and keep them coming..

As mentioned before, this isn't something that will be built overnight.. specially if we want it done right..
I am saving my pennies.. not an inexpensive item so I too am faced with facing the wife, and a new born.. but if we can make it happen I think we all will be happy..

I saw Racecomp's camber plates on an STi right after they finished them (on Nasioc), and all I can say is "wow."

I too would be interested in front camber plates.

Libila,

Glad you have seen Myles' work.. I was very impressed with the design, and was going to get them for my Rex.. but figured the GL could use something like this more..

You were on Nabisco.. hmm.. you have a scooby too?

Yes, they look very nice.

Yes, I do have a scooby Here is a pic, but not a very good one.

I too was thinking of getting a set for my RS but I decided that I don't want to get too far into this car. My project/fun car is my 71 Super and my daily driver is my RS. It's hard not to spend money on that car though!

Nice car.. I will have to get a pic of mine..
Always fond of the old school RS's.. How about putting a STI swap

Nice rims.. P1's.. anything done to it..

Silver, the 22B is similiar but by far very different.. The Mecha of subies..
On the 22B there are wider fenders.. and right hand drive only.. coupled with different tires.. and much much more..

The 22B to Subaru is the Limited Edition GTR to Nissan.

I've just started upgrading the suspension. I've got Prodrive springs, SPT (KYB) adjustable struts, and STi hardened strut tops (tophats). Soon to come is larger front and rear sway bars. It's my daily driver but I do auto-x every chance I get. I'm also participating in a time attack at Arroyo Secca next month. It will be the first time I've raced this car on an actual track, so I'm really looking forward to it!

Loaf, I've got an EJ20 in my garage but I'm not sure which car to put it in
