T4 exhaust dimension
Hello,
I need a measurement. I need to know how much distance there is from the center of the middle hole to the same on the other flange of a T4 exhaust. Preferably in cm For those that are interested, I managed to get some T3-T4 exhaust conversion pipes but wanted to make sure I choose the right muffler. Van der Jeught Bert, BELGIUM

Hi Bert,
Not sure which dimention you mean? Are they the 'header' ports that come from the head and are welded to one flange on each (head) side (two by two) ? Then you must realize also that 1700/1800 have a smaller side to side dimention than a 2000cc. Do you want the outer hole centers? I' ll try to measure it tonight. Maybe I can give you the measuements for both engine types (I have a 1800 and a 2000 exhaust) Greetings, Walter |

Hello,
Wally: that would be nice I thought about the center of the hole (or bolts at the muffler itself) in the middle of one flange. The middle one of the three. I thought that measurement should give me the easiest reference to determine what muffler I need. Van der Jeught Bert, BELGIUM

Bert,
Just went out (it freezes here outside) and measured both exhausts: The 1800 engine is approximately 645 mm between the (middle) bolt holes you mentioned. It is not a very accurate measurement mind you. The 2000 engine (a CU example) is appr. 650 mm between the bolt holes (was easier to measure). I hope that helps you a bit. BTW I thought you had build a very nice type 1 engine with full flow and all? Glad you are going to explore the type 4 :-) Greetings, Walter |

Hello,
Wally, just 0.5 cm difference ? Can I assume that those exhausts would be interchangeable ? Quote:
It's just that I am not familiar with T4 engine types. CSP lists exhausts to fit 1700 - 2000 engines. I wanted a "bigger" exhaust instead of cheap T3 headers with even cheaper (read: junk) mufflers. I like this one. Van der Jeught Bert, BELGIUM

I understand your T3 -> T4 exhaust conversion better when I also looked at my old wbx engine: the wbx has a type 4 (style?) muffler as well and the pipes from the heads are type 1 similar! I guess you have got the wbx exhaust manifolds then, which would fit the type 1/3 heads easily. You won't have heating then anymore, but you probably know that. Not a bad idea tho! Good luck.
