Great pics!!!!! You can pick up some of the external enhancements, but would love to see some the inside detail as well. Looks like it was great fun. Was this concerned really competitive racing from other folks other than the guys racing or running their cars?

I'll say!
A few of those cars were developed some more (!!) after the Käfer-Cup ended and ran in the Divinol Cup amongst the fastest and latest (of that time) Carrera RSR's in circuit-mode and they were right up there on the podium!

I had asked a question on the german bug-forum about the overhead cammed type 4 engines those guys used in the Divinol Cup (the Holzapfel Overfly engine) and - to my surprise and delight - one of the actual drivers of one of those cars responded!

Some of the photo's pictured there, I copied over here.
For Rob: Here's the link that features all of them:

http://www.bug-talk.de/forum/ftopic10556.html

and the same link on our dutch site but with some other Beetle Cup racing pictures for those who don't want to miss anything ;-)
http://www.keversite.nl/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13609

Have fun!

Wally,

Must have been exciting times, that is great. I had seen pictures and heard about the OHC 4 engines before. It would be nice to have one. I am buying a roller cam 4 engine from Jake Raby. Can't wait to get it, this is my second car with a type 4, the one I am driving now has a 2270 Raby Kit I built and it is a screamer. Tons of torque.....

Glad they did the Kafer, it is amazing what comes from racing for all of us that are car (gear) heads.

Very true Gary. Racing does give the most development by far. Most all innovations came from some sort of racing or competition
