I crashed a Porsche show

The Porsche club had their concours last sunday in Oakville. I figured since the bus is in concours shape and it is half Porsche, I'd pay a visit. So, me and the boys rolled three deep in the front seat.

The kind lady at the gate informed me that only Porsches are allowed into the football field where the show was taking place. There was a relatively heavy security presence, and they had their eyes open. All others had to park in the lot and walk down. Seems reasonable, so I parked in the lot.

There were some crazy cars there. A real 959, a beautiful burgandy '52 'A' that was crying for the GL treatement. Lots of everything, from 914 to 996.

The day was a scorcher and I decided to head out.

Aparently, I got lost on the way out and couldn't find the exit. I was going to ask the security dude, be he looked busy and I didn't want to bother him on such a fine Sunday. "I'm a man", I though, I'll figure it out. In my search for the exit, somehow I wasn't paying attention and ended up on the field with the P-cars. People didn't know what to make off the bus. Most of them were very upset. Some people liked it and were taking pictures.

Well by now, the head honcho of the club has called on the attention of the rent-a-cop. He inquired as to my distress. "I couldn't find the exit", I pleaded. Well, he was kind enough to direct me out. Infact, he was kind enough to escort me out. Infact, he was kind enough to escrot me through the grounds all the way out to the main road. Good guy.

Good times for all (for me anyway). I guess I perpetuated the stereotype that all bus drivers are anti-establishement hippies.

Heck, I'm surprised they let 914s in the way some Porsche owners are. Very funny story.

Yeah, the 914's are a little iffy. Here is my understanding:

914-4: Porsche that VW built.
914-6: Porsche that Porsche built
914-383: Porsche that Allan built.

The last one is the fastest, so I've heard. (Al, you still owe me a thrill ride).

Classic story Lanner ... I would have loved to see the faces on the porschephiles as you drove the bus through the crowd.

Good job !

I would have loved to see that too. I bet they were all...

That's funny. I love it! Them darn hippies!

When I get the Ghia finished, I'm going to a show in Ohio. Vw/Porsche reunion, I'm going to try to pass it off as a Porsche.
