Safe internet buying...

I want to buy a set of wheels and tires I found on a used wheel/tire site (xrims.com). How in the world do you insure any kind of safe transaction???
This particular site, along with a lot of forum based sell areas, doesn't have any sort of seller history to look at. No way to check up on the seller (or buyer). You can't just send a money order out and hope you don't get hooked for a couple grand. Paypal is even scarier than sending cash in an envelope... I looked at bidpay, dunno. I guess the only way is through one of these two places that let you use a credit card and if you get ripped, you can usually reverse charges. I've already had to do that once through Paypal and the fallout was incredible, that Paypal account is still frozen from YEARS ago and we ended up having to cancel the card because Paypal kept trying to reclaim the money EVEN though I proved I had been ripped on some junk wheels.
Scammers s-u-c-k!

I hear you. A friend of mine bought a set of Dials (well he paid for them) nad never got the wheels. Then the seller fell off the face of the globe (internet anyway). That was a bad SAMBA deal.

there are some escrow sites that hold the money until you approve everything. i haven't used one personally though.

other than that, a hope and a prayer.

I fear the whole thing may be a little too flakey. The deal is really good, almost too cheap. Finally convinced him to go Bidpay but we need to communicate through regular email... then no word for a couple days. I realize its holiday but still.
If you look up any of the payment routes, Paypal, Bidpay, Escrow, they all have more bad reports than good. The only thing that would save anyone is if you charge your credit card, they WILL try to get their money back and usually credit you if you have decent proof, i.e. emails and tracking #s.

The world sucks more each day.
