Oil type?
Wich oil type is recomended for the 915 gearbox without lsd diff.
I prefer a well known brand such as castrol, mobil,or valvoline. wich is easy to get in the shop |

Hi
I would use a synthetic 75W/90 grade of any of the above makers that you mentioned Friendly Dimitrios |

DO NOT run synthetic in a 915! The syncros NEED friction to work correctly. Synthetic lets them slip. Many a 915 have failed from switching to synthetic...ask any porsche tranny builder.

Hello
so this means that the 915 syncros are or work in a different way comparative to a beetle one or any other car, is that what you mean? If this is the case I'm really sorry didn't know that Friendly Dimitrios |

Yes the synchros work in a diffrent way in the 915. brake bands and multiple parts design. have never seen anything like that before.
The swepco oil is impossible to get in norway. Other good oils? Redline? |

No Swepco? Do you have any porsche rebuilders, or dealerships in Norway? (import from Germany)With the exchange rate for Euro to US dollars, it might not be to expensive to get some from over here (compared to rebuilding your tranny when using wrong gear lube). Pelican parts, or Ebay motors?

Hi,
no synthetic oil in the 901, 914 and 915. You can use Castrol EPX 90, or Shell Spirax MB 90. Both are API GL5. Martin |

Wil contact some porsche dealers about the swepco oil. but i have never seen it in automotive parts shops here.
Importig oil is problematic since it is classified as dangerous goods and can only be sendt by groud freight.(wich takes about 3mts.) then summer is over and car in the garage again. Think i go for the castrol oil then |

I thought there would be issues importing oil. (had to ask anyway) Martin I'm glad someone on that side of the pond finally replied to this. There's alot of Porsche's over there, and they got to have something in the gearboxes that works.

Well I am not too sure what the shipping would be for to get you the oil, but it is $39.99 for a gallon of of it here in the states. Let me know if you would like to put a group order together for it there, I would be happy to help you get a bunch of it there and save you all a lot of money.
