It's not a crazy thought, just an expensive one.

Well, not just an expensive one but a dangerous one also.

If you are going to do that, you better add the extra investment of kevlar. When there is an accident on the track and you see a big puff of smoke (and I don't mean da good stuff), that's carbon fiber blowing up. The chards holding what is left together in a mangled sort of way is kevlar.

Even at that, you better wear at least a mask because you don't want to inhale carbon particles.

Then, you might as well rethink the whole chassis because even with kevlar, you would want more than a roll bar.

Never mind. It was a crazy thought.

Carbon Fibre Bug? Wow. Now THAT could be a 0-60mph slingshot.

Actually, regardless of the safety and expense issues, I think a Bug that weighs that little, but still retains it's other original physical dimensions (no aerodynamic mods for downforce), would be so light, you would have a fraction of the mechanical grip necessary to maintain control of the car at highway speed, and create so much lift vs. weight that you'd likely be airborne before 100mph, further compounding the inherent impact safety concerns of carbon fibre, and carbon Kevlar.

Neat thought though....

didn't Mr. Raby talk about that in one of his shows?
I think I remember him mentioning that he's either building a complete CF bug, or "just" a CF chassis.
