Question Rear Rotohub Brake Install Question

I am installing the CB Performance Rear Rotohub brake kit in my '73 standard bug and I have a question. Which way up do the calipers mount? The instructions are not clear and I assume that they mount with the E-brake springs up or on top of the caliper, but wanted to confirm before I bend the hard brake lines.
Thanks for your help.

Same here '73.

BTW, when the friction material wears out, get a set of rear pads for a '93 Ford Taurus LX from the FLAPS (friendly local auto parts stores) It's been awhile since I looked up the part numbers, but I think it's 610.

intalling brakes?? and you could have been over my place installing an engine??? steve came by and we got it in today. yea!!!

anyway, not familiar with the kit, but bleeder screw is always on the top (so the air can rise). that may tell you right side up for the spring.

it never stops to amaze me just how consistent auto companies are will really crappy directions. if they could be that consistent with quality, the industry would be booming. of course you could be taking pics and notes and writing a tech article for this site so the next guy don't have the same problem.

Thanks for the replies guys. I Thought that this was the right way up for precisely the reason of the bleader nipples being above the lines, but I figured it would not hurt to ask.

I did take several pictures that may be useful in the future....

Zen, glad you got the engine in, did you get a breather box?

Yeah, the spring goes up. Don't feel bad. I had the same question when I installed mine. Here's a pic of my install. It's under the Projects section of my website.

yeti...Thanks for the heads-up on the pads. I was wondering what the calipers came off of. :agree:

The calipers and rotors are on, the brake line on one side is hooked up. I am still waiting for my wheels....and the front pads which are on back order.
The only problem that I am having is that my emergency brake cable appears to be about an inch too long. I called CB Performance and they assure me that I have the correct cable at 72 1/8th inches long....I hope to figure this out this week. Anyone else run into this problem?

Not really an answer but maybe an option if you are in a hurry to get it going and can't wait for different parts...
They didn't have a "bus" kit for me, I used a kit for a IRS bug and just replaced the cables in the kit with the longer bus ones. How this affects you is... my cables were a little too long also and I went to the hardware store and got some ends that are made for terminating cable (a crimp kinda thingy) then once I had the end on there where I needed and had the excess cut off, I took my mig welder and tacked the end of the cable a couple times which made a kind of ball so the crimp thingy couldn't be pushed/pulled off if it tried to slide... sounds hokey but works just fine.
