My other project.

So i have this OTHER project that has been on hold, pretty much since i acquired my 65 bus. i WAS building a volksrod, but after starting the GL bus build, and having an extra set of Porsche brakes laying around, i decided to build somewhat of an F-1 inspired car. It will have a mid-mounted supercharged VR6 mated to a 914 901 5 speed trans. Full tube chassis with coilover/a-arm front suspension and 944 aluminum trailing arms with coilovers in the rear.

i got this silly mid-engine idea after drooling over the "UBRDUB" that volkdent is workin on.

Here are a couple pics of the car i was building.

Chopped the top 5.5" in the front and about 3.5" in the rear. i think it came out decent for my first chop.

Puttin a big hole in the roof.

Capped the doors, since it will have no B pillar and therefore no side glass.

And thats pretty much where it sits at this point. i have acquired a pretty nice original W declid that i will be routing the exhaust through, and have ditched the whitewalls, because i want to put a set of 18" or 19" Hollow spoke Porsche wheels on it. Like these:

Small update. Yesterday i was given an 8v engine from an 88 golf. My buddy thought he cracked the block, but after removing the engine and putting another one in, he realised that it was just a hole in one of the freeze plugs.

i wanted to run a VR6, but free is free. Cant beat that. Probably gonna turbo the 8v.

Interesting project and a great job on the chop! The 8v 90 HP engine is one of the best engines VW made.Very reliable and is a good base for a turbo project.

Love the B-Pillar removal, something I've been thinking about for over 10 years. Great look. I actually want to paint out my B-Pillar in black to give it a similar effect. Should look really mean and be a serious head turner!

I don't know why I didn't catch this before, but I'm quite sure you can't go mid-engine and use the Porsche ally arms, no room between them for engine and tranny Sorry to burst your bubble, but i know you'll figure something else out!

Yeah I kinda figured that after thinking about it. So we're going to do full a-arm suspension and I'm going to use the aluminum arms on my bus once I find a Porsche box for it. Thanks for the input!
