Question, I have a type one engine that is a 2110. I also have a 2332, both having CB 044 heads.
I seem to recall that a cylinder opened to 90mm, will also take 92's. I have some mahle 90.5 and I tried my 92 head on, there was slop in the way the cylinder fit the head register.
What am I missing? The 90.5 head fit normally to the 90.5 cylinder,it would seem that 92,s and 90.5 register are not exchangeable.

The O.D. of 90.5 and 92's should be the same. Are they made by same company? Also, the seal comes from the top of the cylinder, not the sides. Yes, it is ideal to have a tight fit all around, but can have "slop" that's acceptable by some. The cutter could have been set on the big side when they were machined.

They both were mahle's

The top head is a CB 044 (d) version. The lower one is a (B) version. I thought once you go above 85, 88 into the land of 90.5; the 92 would fit where a 90.5 was, but they won't.

Wow! That "B" head has tiny chambers! Have you called CB and asked them? The 90.5 and 92 should be the same O.D.?

The "B" is the earlier 044 head. When I ordered those heads I orded match ported intakes. The "D" version heads do have larger combustion chambers, the head shown was the head the was repaired, due to a bent valve.
However I did not open up the combustion chambers to that extent. Also the intake runners could not be opened up, without massive welding.
Im not sure what the current version looks like, but side by side will be obvious.

After looking at the heads again the "D" version is cut for 94mm. You can tell by the head stud holes that open up into the cylinder area.
