Are you talking about a type 1 transmission? If you are, yes it can be installed, quite easily. You need a 210mm or 215mm type 2 (bus) flywheel/clutch/pressure plate. The pilot bearing that normally goes in the crank needs to be fitted to the hole in the flywheel. The release bearing must be compatable with the pressure plate. There is a slight hang up with the release bearing cross shaft on some years but I don't remember what that is.

I highly recomend spending the $$ for the "Next Generation" manual, it covers all this very well. I sold my manual to another forum member when I decided to install a Porsche 5 speed so I don't have the address. I'm sure someone will chime in and help.
