Hi all,

The time has come when the ol' 1200 is not enough for me. I drive a 1200 Bug (1970), stock everything at the mo. The pocket contains about a grand to get me started - what do I do?
other type of engine? modified bug engine? - I need some ideas!

I will consider going water cooled also, so any help you can give would be great. - Thanks!

:D

I think you should establish a budget. Find out what kind of driving you'll be doing, figure on an engine size and build a chassis to handle your engine output. IMHO, The chassis should be built 1st. Especially braking. Make the car safe, THEN build the engine. Also, do you want Fuel injection? Turbo? N/A? N20? Engines could get into $$$. So establish a budget for your engine. Also, keep in mind reliability. The biggest displacement isn't always the best. I'm not a big fan of the H20 VW conversion so I can't help, although I've seen it done before. If I were to go H20, I'd go Subaru or Rotary (my opinion).

Lightning bug is right, look in your pockets, ask the bank assistant and then see what you might get for the money. Compare this to that, what you want...

The prices for engines are all the same, you can spent even more, but where I see more problems is in the safety of your car and if there's enough "beef" in your car to put a bigger engine in, say brakes, better gearbox, oil cooler, electric fuel pump, those nice little details, that cost you after all the same like a good engine. Take a look on your car at fist!
