Subaru Engine....should I do it ?

I have the chance to buy a EJ25 Subaru engine.
It's complete, except the wiring harness, but with ECU.

The price is good, but it needs a new head gasket.

This is very tempting. Consider that this engine makes about 160 HP. I figure I need another 800-1000 for the adapter, and another 500 for the wiring harness, rad and hoses and stuff....

So let's say 2 Grand to get it running....

I don't think I can get/build a TIV with 160 HP for that amount of money, can I ?

What do you think ? Should I do it or hold off until I can get a TIV ?

The adaptor should cost Average price is $440 for 200mm VW, $540 for 9” (228mm) VW that is from Kennedy Enginnering (http://www.kennedyeng.com/vw_por.htm)

I say go for it... It is water cooled and the power was designed for a car 2 to 3 times the weight of your car... So you can even put A/C in if you want and have power to spare. You will also get more power as the exaust will be shorter.

I am installing a Mazda RX7 13b Turbo in my 1303 project 250 to 350 hp depending on the boost.

The other thing to consider is how long you can drive between tune ups and rebuilds...

Steve from Australia has a nice set up with a water boxer if you click on his web site you can see how he set up his radatior in front.

I say go for it!

Go for it, I've got the 2l turbo and don't regret it! Fuel consumption is excellent too.
Bonus for you is that the guys who fit this engine have helped development of several variants of slimline sump to get around the ground clearance issue. Checkout www.smallcar.com for pics of what they offer and the subaruvanagon yahoo group for tech help and pics of others

160 hp is a nice number. You've got a boxer so you know how it runs, even though its a WRX.

Have you seen the video of the blue beetle with a Mazda rotary turbo ? CRAZY STUFF ... lots of power there.

I might go W/C as well, who knows.
