Doersnt seem to be much talk of scooby doos being fitted I am the proud owner of a '73 1303s which is getting a lot of custom work done such as upgrading front brakes to 6 pot tarox vented dics and calipers and rear conversion to discs so i have decided to fit a legacy 2.2l with polished and portewd heads and an 85 shot nitrous kit. i would like to know if anyone is already running the conversion and what they think. this is an everyday car which has been getting me to and from from work for the last year on the old 1600 engine which has covered 100k since 1973 and i want to keep the old goat going for ever.

Try over on the conversion forum on the STF. There are several Subaru conversions running out there.

You might want to try the Subaru-Vanagon group.
Although it covers Sube conversions for Vanagons, there is a lot of good info in there.

Hi,
I've seen a few Subaru 16-valve conversions over here, mainly in buggys, but what struck me is that the sump was scary low to the ground! Even the special sumps that are available don't give much more clearing.
I know some of you (Michael Ghia) raise the entire engine/box in a kit car/buggy, but in a bug that might not be really be as easy.

How do you overcome that problem?

It was Rich Olaffson who raised and moved the gearbox forward in his speedster. After talking to Rich, I plan on doing the same to mine, but obviously in a 1303...
There will be a bit of cutting of the firewall and parcel shelf involved, but nothing major.

are you going to do the conversion yourself? i am getting the boyz in AMR Motors in surrey to do mine as i have tried a few things on the car myself and dont want to botch it up like i have in the past.

yeah, I'm gonna do all the fitting and fabrication work myself. I have a mate who's an electrical engineer and auto electrician, and he'll help with the wiring end of things. Should be fun when it's done!!

There are a number of guys in Aussie that are keen on engine conversions, heres a link that you may find useful re sumps that give more clearance for the EJ22 (?) engines.
