just brought a 914 box 2ltr tail shift.
what i need to know is,1;what ratios?and ware can i get some info on stripeing and assembly?
girlfriends dad is going to shot peen it all just need to strip it all down.

If you got a lil time hang in there cause I'm doing the "911 901 with 914 gears" conversion as we speak and should be complete this weekend and if all goes well I'll have a tech article to go with it.
You might want to look for a early 911 tranny as well cause you'll need the nose cone, hockey stick, (if it's a early Aluminum case you'll need the)case and intermediate plate as well as a gasket kit for a early 911.

When stripping the transmission down... do your best to keep the gaskets in one piece. The gasket between the intermediate plate and the main case sets the backlash and mesh pattern of the crown and pinion so it needs to stay the same. Get some cheap micrometers and have yourself setup with lots of bench space and boxes and a camera.
They are pretty straight forwards and not difficult to rebuild.
Gear ratios are

1 11/34 = 3.09
2 18/34 = 1.88
3 23/29 = 1.26
4 27/25 = 0.93
5 31/22 = 0.71
Ring and Pinion 7/31 = 4.429

There are lots of people who have been inside a 901/914 tranny. I don't know of any parts for sale... sorry. Make sure that all the bearings run quiet and that the syncro rings are ok etc etc. It helps to have looked at a few gearboxes to know what to look for but once you know... you'll reuiblding everyone elses :)
