what years and models of Porsche's (just 914?) and vw's are considered type 4's ? I read somewhere that 72 + buses are type 4's ,True ?! And finally will they bolt up to a type 1 trans ?

Yes, 914-4s used type 4 engines, 411 and 412 were the original type 4 cars, I think it was '72-'80 for buses (not positive). They are all the same basic engine with minor differences such as exhaust port shape, breather towers, displacement, compression ratio, valve sizes. They will all bolt up to a type 1 trans but there is more to it that just bolting it up. Check out www.tunacan.net for more type 4 and conversion info.

The porsch 912e also has a type4 engine, and 2000cc busses up until the wasserboxer 1.9 and 2.1(they are closer to a type1 than a type4).
