View Full Version : Rockers?

This has been an ongoing problem. I set my valves and the engines hums. With about two weeks of driving (regular), the car goes back to sounding like a diesel truck. My mechanic says my rockers are worn out. It used to do this prior to getting new valves, which I have now. But even with the new valves within 2 weeks maybe 3 they start knocking and get progressively worse.
So here I am, looking for a second opinion before I have to spend $$ again.
Any thoughts.

I had that problem, turns out the lifters werent turning and got destroyed.
I discovered this by pulling the sump plate and peeking up in the case with a pen light, I could just barely see the lifters all chewed up in there and bits of them were collected around the strainer
Hope thats not you problem, thats a rebuild right there
good luck

What kind of push rods, and adjusters do you have?

I think:
Push Rod: Chrome alley
Adjusters: Swivel Foot
Sorry sort of an amateur

If you do have true cromoly push rods, then they should be set at "0" lash, not .006, or .004. Stock aluminum push rods expand, cromoly does not. (stock go to 0 lash when at operating temps.)
The swivel adjusters, if not "real 911" ones...could be causing issues also.
