You will have to get a race/fab shop, or someone with good aluminum welding skill's to do it... I have never seen one offered just for a SB. Last year in a Hotvw's there was a 1303 in France that had a CF gas tank! The whole car is loaded with one off CF stuff!

I installed an aluminum fuel cell in Herbie X. Pix can be found it the gallery on my website. It is made by FuelSafe and has antislosh foam and a Kevlar bladder. It is a quality cell and holds 16 gal. of fuel.

Well ... my car became a total loss about a year after I made the post above yours. I never investigated prices too closely except for what was posted for their standard offerings. The last time I was there, they had cells that would have gone inside the spare wheel well area. I don't remember the details so much but since they also do custom work, it may be worth contacting them with your questions.

I'm still on the fence on what my replacement car will be but I assure you if I go the Super Beetle route again, I will be back onto it again. In fact, if I go with a Super again, it will probably be more on the aggressive side so I will place a higher priority on the fuel cell.

The idea got placed on the back-burner with my '71 because I became reluctant to remove the rear seat, move the battery forward, and other contingencies I was weighing at the time (and will be weighing in the future).

I bought a 12gal. ATL well-cell for my 73 super and it fits with room to spare. There's enough room to put the fuel pump next to the tank inside the spare tire well. As for cost, mine ended up around $610 or so if I remember correctly and that includes the fuel sender.
