I installed an aluminum fuel cell in Herbie X. Pix can be found it the gallery on my website. It is made by FuelSafe and has antislosh foam and a Kevlar bladder. It is a quality cell and holds 16 gal. of fuel.

Need to contact Fuelsafe, and see if they have one for a SB. Herbie is a '63 or '64 STD. The tanks will be different Caveman.

That one was custom made (16 gal and the spare fits and hood shuts). I think it was $2200. But I can't say for sure.

i bought this rci on ebay for around $230.00 it fits in the hole of the orginal stock sell on my bug (59) perfect width wise but its to short length so it doesnt take up the entire orginal hole 12gal alum, i made up some aluminum straps to hold it in place once its in i can post pictures. i dont know when that will be those its rather cold out these days

when i orginally purchased it i just measured the hole and searched until i found something that would fit this was the best i could come up with. beats the cost of having a 2k custom tank made up.

Aero Tec Labs have all kinds of different fuel cells. My favorite is one called the "well cell" which fits inside a spare tire well -- perfect for the Super.

The 12-gallon version is about eight inches tall.

I personally haven't figured out for me if I can still have a spare or a space-saving spare incorporated to where the original tank is. I also haven't figured out where to put the battery. It is not a front-burner project for me yet but I like their products.

If you can find one that is ready made and make it work it will be MUCH cheaper than having it custom made. The owner of HX wanted this one to fit like stock and hold 16 gal. The Kevlar bladder and foam adds to the price tag as well.
