Re: Type IV in a '56 VW Beetle

Hello-

I've 99% decided to install a type IV engine in the '56 bug I'm currently restoring. The trans has already been updated to a Rancho Street pro plus. I've begun looking around this great state of Alaska for the type IV, but its like searching for a needle in a hatstack up here. I have a line on a 1.6 engine from a porsche 912(?), dual webers with "upright" cooling tin. Suppossed to be in good condition.

That's not a Type IV... that's a Porsche 356-based engine.

Can Jake bump it up to the 2 litre plus if I send it to him?

If he really tried... :-). It isn't even near commonly done. We have P&C to bump them up to about 1900cc or so... but that's it.

I really need help knowing what year(s), model(s) and sizes of moters to look for. When I go the the locals around here and mention a type IV, they get this deer in the headlights look in there eyes. I think i'm looking for engines from type 411, 412, 914, 912 and some buses? Thanks a lot your help.

1968-74 411 and 412 (which is all years)
1968-76 914 (all years and varieties except 1970-72 914-6)
1972-79 bus (US-spec... ROW may have Type 1 in some cases)
1980-83 bus (same as above... also, has enclosed breather tower)
1976 912E (which is a one year only car and NOT a 1965-69 912!)

Take care,
