The later 356 engines (also used in the 912 except for the 912E) made 90-95 HP. A little engine tin needs to be fabricated to fill the gap at the rear--the 356 engine is the same size as a 40-horse Bug engine--and that's it.

The downside? Price. Those suckers are spendy, and you really don't wanna know what a rebuild costs. Cranks are often out of spec nowadays, and have been ground enough to be marginal for more grinding... And a number of them break now from being run after having been ground too far... And cranks are really obscenely expensive.

But hey, they're pretty nifty lil' motors....

356, 911, 914 (and their derivatives) are the only aircooled Porsches.
