UPDATE:

The no.2 rod bearing spun, and burned up, causing the failure of the rod cap.
I don't know if this happened before, or after the torque converter/flex plate rivets broke or not.

It definately lunched the case.

There's a hole the size of a kindergarten pencil just above the lifter boss, and some webbing crunched off in the other case half.

Anybody got a good Type IV case with an open breather tower for sale?
