Just do something. Set a small goal and do it. Build on simple accomplishments. Spend at least 15 minutes every day. If your not in the mood, just sit in the drivers seat and wine. Enjoy what your doing or find something else.

Bugs are life,
Bill

lack of motivation...

I seem to be having a lack of motivation lately. It's not exaclty like I have a project sitting in the drive, with no drive to work on it. I have no project to work on. I currently own a '72 standard, but I have no intention of building a standard GL. My sights are set on an early 60's Ghia with an IRS pan. If by some chance I find a great deal on a '73-up super, I'll build that project instead. Basicly, my problem is I have an urge to build a project but there is no project to build. I have parts, money, time, but no project. I recently had to hide the parts in my room, because looking at them kept giving me that same feeling, like I'm not really going anywhere towards a project. If I had a garage I would simply hide them there, but I'm not that lucky. I personaly don't like doing nothing, it's almost like wasting time you might say. I was involved in a project of my friend's '51 split recently, it wasn't my project but I still had a sence of pride of setting a goal and meeting that goal. Also, seeing the other GL projects on this site moving along further gives me the feeling of getting no where, but I'm sure they would motivate if I was started already.... I believe that's all for now. Sorry for the extra long post.

Any thoughts, personal feelings, or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Mike

Sorry for the complaining like this but I've been wanting to get that out for sometime. My girlfriend likes Volkswagens, but she wouldn't understand.

Well not everybodies projects move along at the same pace as others. I worked at a pretty fast pace when I decided I was going to restore my car but after a few monthe I became overwhelmed with options and the project pretty much sat still for at least a year. Then I started going the GL route but still had no Iidea what I was doing so it still took forever to get anything done. Then at last years (2003) bug jam I met the guys from the VKG and it all started to make sence. They directed me to these forums and with there help and the help of others my project is getting done. If you can't find your perfect car just wait a little and it will come along. In the mean time maybe start collecting engine parts as good deals become available, that way when you get the car you can drop in the go to get you to the show...

yeah i think all my motivation was sucked out through my wallet when i bought a house.
i have a motor half assembled in the base ment needing to be finished so it can be returned to the rear of my bug.
i have the parts to put it back together but there's always a million other things that get in the way....
the other thing was that i had a type 4 to build for the car but money being tight i couldn't afford the swap as the motor was a dud

i dunno i see the car every morning and every evening sitting nice and low in the weeds and i just feel like a neglectful father

Okay, volksdragon, this has been going on for almost two months now.

Now hear this: YOU WILL DEDICATE AT LEAST ONE HOUR PER WEEK PUTTING YOUR CAR BACK TOGETHER. SCHEDULE IT NOW. I SAID NOW! YES, I Was shouting....

Once it's together, you will drive it. Regularly.

In the meantime, set up a budget. NOW. Every pay period, you will donate a given amount regardless how small to an envelope for this project and this project alone. This amount is a fixed minimum. You may donate more but once it is donated it cannot be used for anything else.

If, once you start driving, you do not have the motivation returning to you, you will identify what it is you do want and you will proceed from there.

Finally, you will file weekly reports here as to your progress no matter how small. No need to tell us how much is in your envelope if you don't want to since it is not really any of our business.

This is dr. oasis at your service.

Just picture in your mind, the look of shock on the face of the guy in the first pimped out Honda Civic you will lay the smack down on. Most of that crowd has no idea what a VW(air-cooled) can do.

I'm about as unmotivated as I can be right now.

I work on cars, trucks, farm tractors, and road tractors all day. When I'm off work at 6:00pm, I don't want to work on anymore cars, even if they're mine.

My engine bulid-up has ceased because I'm STILL waiting on some important parts. I have so much still to do to the car, and pan, but I need the engine out of the way first.

The Passat fiasco set me back ($$) drasticly, so that makes it even worse.

Sorry about that folks, but I'm afraid the carrot's gone for me too.

This should be everybody's motivation. I know its mine. A beetle is all I have ever driven. I CANNOT wait to light em up on POS Civic. I'm gonna toy with em! I had a Mustang GT pull up on the side of me the other nite, wanting to race. Its a ****** 70hp bug you moron that cost 1/5th your car and is 20+years older!!!!!!!
But one day, they are gonna be embarrassed and garage their car in shame... :agree:
