MASSIVE TYPE IV
Joined: 07 Jul 2000 Posts: 15271 Location: Aircooled Heaven, USA Posted: Thu Sep 02, 2004 2:40 pm Post subject: Need help form a TIV enthusiast in SOCAL!! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I talked to Tiger at A-1 today and he is willing to make us a prototype Type 4 exhaust for testing!!! What we need is someone to supply a Type 4 engine in a car for him to work with. I am willing to pay Tiger for his time, and let the exhaust system stay with the volunteer for the use of their car for the fitting process. This means a 100% free kick *** system for someone that is willing to make it happen and can do so quickly. This is the only key to the Type 4 puzzle that is not easy and affordable now and we have been waiting for this opportunity for YEARS! Tiger is the first person in his line of expertise to show any enthusiasm toward the type 4 exhaust and we need to utilize it ASAP!!! So, who in SOCAL can give up their car for a few days??? Worst case scenario does anyone have a longblock that Tiger could put into his beetle for the fitting process?? I could send him a DTM to fit onto the engine to ensure all would clear fine if we have to go this route.... So, someone help us out!!!!! Volunteers?? anyone?? This may finally make the exhaust situation on the type IV a no problem affair and will drop the cost of a conversion drastically. Tiger may even be willing to make a couple of different versions of the system for different looks and etc... The one I'm most interested in is a system that uses a Fat Boy style muffler like a Type I. If this works, look for a group buy to be organized immediately after i test the system and get positive results!!! _________________ Jake Raby Raby's Aircooled Technology www.aircooledtechnology.com www.massivetype4.com

A good affordable exhaust system is a must for all us TYPE-IV converts. I'll go down to A-1 next week and check it out.

Zen thanks..
this is so exciting.. I wish I had a donor car to lend ![]() General question? Why has it been so difficult to make an exhaust for these darn TIV conversions. Is it the making of a header then matching it to an exhaust. Is it the exhaust port location. Very curious, and since I am not there yet, very interested. Thanks

I dont think that is has been very difficult, its just that in the USA there hasnt been much interest in the T4 conversion until recently, thats why none of the Header manufacturers have made any exhausts. It hasnt been cost effective Im sure. Remember, supply and demand go hand in hand. With Not much demand in the US until recently, thats why there has been no supply needed to be made by the US manufacturers.
In Europe, there are more companies that make them then just BAS, but that is because this conversion has been popular for over 20 years there!

what he said. even with what jake and A1 are taking on they are saying it will take about 20 systems to even make it worth while and that is with a mass production approach. truly custom and high quality approaches take you into the Tangerine approach and about $1500. then there are all the others that sit inbetween (LAP, BAS, etc).
