I don't know if it os of any use but i have a stock (but lowered ) 1964 1200 bug with a 1776cc engine gives about 80 bhp at the wheels (verifed on rolling road) only mod to trans i've done is new gearbox mounts (only can do this when engine out ) and an EMPI gearbox strapping kit. I think this is the limit of a stock gearbox ........
