Dry Sump Pump
Hi,
I'm trying to cure an oil starvation problem I'm having when I go through a sweeper or brake really hard ... I lose oil pressure for a few seconds and then it picks back up again. BTW, its for a 914 2.0 T4 in my bug .. I plan on going to ALOT of track days in 2005, engine runs great and I have no intention of splitting the case for windage tray mods. I was thinking of using an accusump to hopefully solve the problem, but by the time I get all the parts together, I'm looking at $350 USD. Not too bad with the USD/CAD ratio. I found this pump from CB performance and along with their aluminum tank and fittings, I'm looking at about the same price. Does anyone have any experience with this system ? Thanks for any input. I have one of those pumps, they are nice schadek pumps, but i find the scavenger gears are kind of small. I took it off my motor, but im thinking of using it again cause metal parts went through my old dry sump pump. Bry

Sandeep, try adding a deep sump from Scat to help cure the issue. We solve most issues with it because it is narrow and G forces impact it less than the oil in the crankcase.
I'm in the final stages of an exonomical dry sump pump that uses a Schadek 30mm pump as well as another 30mm set of gears for the second stage. It's intermediate plate is steel that is DLC coated and cryoed and the housing for the second stage is CNC machined heat treated aluminum. The nicer model incorporates ball bearings at the end of the gears to reduce wear. The CB pump is made for a Type I and may collide (likely to) with the TIV cam gear and rivets :-( I have used them but didn't like it very much.

How about running 1/2 quart high on oil level? Should help some.

Thanks to all for the info .. I've tried to run the oil level a little higher on the dipstick, it works but I don't like the idea of driving around after a day at the track, for instance, with an overfull case.
I've heard from some users that they don't like the scavenging capacity of the CB pump and you've confirmed it here. Jake, How long till that pump you're working on is complete ? My car is in storage for the winter and I'm starting on the 901 5 speed and kafer brace install. I figure I could wait untill late Feb - early Mar 2005 at the latest for a permanent solution. hello mate
am running a 3 stage pump from stateside tuning in the uk dont know whare he gets it from but it is the dogs dangelys and have no probs what so ever.am useing the 03 for hill climbs and sprints and track days.dry sump is the only way to go if you want your engine to last on the track. the type1 style pumps need to much clearanceing to work,you will break through the pump houseing.good luck with it and you wont look back when it's done. cheers rob

Pete,
I'm hoping to pull the engine this weekend and then take all the measurements I can before the tranny hits the floor. I will keep you posted. I'm thinking the weekend of the 11th/12th it will be available. Perhaps a meet at my place with Beer/Pizza during that weekend if the B AG is available ? Sandeep |
