Ah.. the plot thickens.. I have to ponder now..
But the info you provided is great.. as we all learn from each other..specially when someone starts thinking outside the box.. That being said, I recommend the ol' search button.. plenty of threads.. If I have time I will post some links.. The five speed route is one that a many of us are pursuing.. 901 vs 915 (which I have only seen in pictures, so not to familiar) as well as Berg.. EvilOval and myself, as looking at making a nice sized purchase from Bug@5speed.. for doing the conversion.. we both are waiting on a back issue to see the parts on another fellows car.. more to come.. As far as trailing arms.. you can keep your stockers, unless your dead set on alum and wider track.. So sky's the limit.. I will dwell on this and throw something your way.. Do you have a budget your working with? Alex

the bug@5speed kit
what is that? i know it's something to do with ....i forget my budget, is pretty low like maybe i can put out about 500 a month, give or take, and i can't do that every month right now i'm working on fixing all the rust in my car UGH, talk about a pain, i'm almost done though and when i'm done with that (next week) on to my roll cage then i work out all the smaller things (dents, filling small holes) and get it somewhat ready to paint i don't want to paint it yet becasue it has to stay outside while i work on the frame so once i'm ready to start doing the frame (probably 2 months) that's when i do tranny and brakes and suspension and all that so i want to get my stuff together now so that when time comes i'm not just trying to save money and not get any work done

Under the transmission forum, lot of info.. but the highlight is that its parts needed to put 5 speed tranny into your bug..
Who is making your roll cage.. someone locally in NJ? BTW do you know anyone who Powder Coats or Media blasts, little OT but figured I'd ask since your local.. are you north or south NJ? Alex

yeah, there's a place here in my town and they do fab work, sandblasting, powder coating and some other stuff i'm sure. I've never been there but i drive by it all the time and that's what the sign says, i'm going there soon. I'm in north jersey, right between morristown and dover
i think i'm getting the roll cage from autoweld with some extra pipe so i can add to it and all that. i think they run around 300 for a 4130 12 point. i think lazylongboarder got one from them, you could ask him about his, i'll probably be ordering one in 2 weeks or so, they're in PA where are you from? do you know any good junkyards around in north jersey? it would probably be the best way to get my porsche brake setup

Let me know the name.. I have so many parts that I need PC and sand blasted, including some none VW stuff..
I am over by belleville, Rt 3 and Rt 21.. not to far from Clifton Commons.. if that helps.. As far as brakes and parts.. Samba, has been my best help.. There is a place, clarences or something down south.. and there is a place in Jersey City for VW but not sure if he is still around.. on Rt 1 in linden area, there are a bunch of Junkyards.. Your best bet is head west to PA if your going to do the junk yard thing.. Incidently, I do have a set of late 944 spindles laying around.. if your going higher end you can use these with some Coilovers from LN Engineering.. they are DIFFERENT in the sense that the Maxx struts don't fit on them due to slightly different width of where the strut goes.. I do have 944 matching struts that could be used if your going to do your own thing.. I have them just sitting, could work something out if interested.. But I want to make sure that you understand, so no one thinks I am trying to pull as fast one.. Do a search on early vs late 944 spindles so you can see the difference.. There are vendors that sell struts for them or you can make your own with Koni's and from there you could go with Lanner and get some hubs and use what ever brakes you like.. Do you have pics of your GL? We need to get a NJ meet going when we get our cars on the road.. Alex

![]() it's even worse now, i'll put up more pictures later, they're so fun as for the spindles, i might be interested, but i don't want to get in trouble having to get matching brakes, callipers, and hubs, although i might be doing that anyway. do i have to get different trailing arms too? i'm going to be making my own anyway so it's not really a problem if i have to. what about tie rods and the junk? i have new ones and i don't think i wnat to have to get new ones. then i need porsche camber/ caster plates ......blahhhhhhhhhh i don't really wnat to mess with where it bolts in to the car
