Take it to your local chrome plater, they can remove the chrome.
I had this done to a bumper that I wanted to paint - worked fine. mrweasel |

Mrweasel is 100% correct :agree: . If you don't strip the chrome the powder coating can chip off. The same goes for painting over chrome. I tried sandblasting a chrome part before powder coating, but it still chiped easy. A chrome shop can dip it in thier acid tank and strip it very fast and easily for little cash$

I'll give them a call. I think that I will have to send it to L.A. anyways because they have the only facility that processes aluminum. You think a "steel" chrome shop could do it? Same acid tank right?

I don't think it really matters if its aluminum or steel. They both are chrome plated in the same way. After the parts are prepped they go through a copper bath, nickel bath, and chrome bath all for different times, and checked between baths for imperfections. Call a chrome shop to be sure as i'm no expert... but I did stay at a holiday inn express once!
