Alluminum trailing arms in a splitty
Doeas any one know how to install Porsche trailing arms into a split window bus that has been converted to an IRS setup. The trailing arms have a cast in ridge that will not allow the springplates to fit flush. I dont think that I can use Porsche trailing arms due the fact that I need to use modified bus items. But if I try to clerance the springplates that came in the kit there is not alot of metal left between the bolt holes. Any suggestions? Pics of a conversion would be great. I would like to use the Porsche items if I can, not type one parts.

With the AL arms you are probably going to be too wide.
I used early 944 steal arms in my conversion and they are essentially the same as Beetle IRS arms. The AL spring plates are different than the normal IRS ones that the Bus IRS kits offer... Might need some customization here ![]() What wheels are you trying to run?

I am wanting to run fuch 5.5 replicas on the rear. It is looking like I am going to have to go to the bug type 1 parts with a disc brake kit in the porsche pattern. Or try to trade my alluminum ones with steel. Are the Porsche steel ones the same bolt pattern as VW type 1?

I'm with Pillow. Use the 944NA steel arms. You get all the Porsche brakes, without the added hassel of the offset increase. On my 65, I didn't have to clearance the transmission cradel to get the IRS arms in. With the alum arms, due to their added bulk, you'd have to clearance quite a bit. It's not worth it.
