how to fit handbrake to porsche brakes?

Here's my setup stock vw bug hubs machined to fit porsche 996 GT3 discs and calipers. Now the problem is, I have no idea how to make the handbrake work with this setup, I'd prefer not to go with a hydraulic handbrake if possible. Does anyone have any pics or helpful info on how the handbrake setup works on a 996 GT3. Any help is appreciated really. pics of the setup: Front rear buildup pics |

One option would be to fit an aftermarket handbrake conversion kit. Marlin (UK kit car company) have a patented one that should do the trick

How wide is the disc (rotor)? You might be able to use a Wilwood mechanical caliper: http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/product...oducts_id=8312 Alternatively fit a plain disc between the inner CV and the gearbox and mount the mechanical caliper on a cradle over the gearbox. |

Thanks for the info guys. I've emailed Marin about their kit, seems to be the best and easiest solution. I hope they'll be able to help me out. |

Unfortunately Marlin doesn't have a suitable kit for me so the search continues.

Going through the MBT catalogue, after I saw the MBT 1303 that Wally posted, I noticed this pic. Maybe they can come up with a similar setup for you.

From memory it was an incredibly simple design that I´m sure you could do as a one off...

I'll try to find some good pics of the kit, maybe I can have something similar made up locally.

That looks like the Brembo handbrake caliper used on expensive (super)cars, which not only weighs more than 2 kg but also costs more than $ 200 :/

Hi What about getting a simple caliper from the rear of a Mazda etc that has handbrake setup built in. Steve

The main problem will be (just like with the willwood setup) that the disc is very thick and the caliper will not go over it?. I'll have a look at the wreckers to find one? Anyone know of other car types that use a caliper for a handbrake? I know Aston Martin uses it but price will be high I think. |
