I agree it would not look so elegant and certainly the wider idler pulleys might be in the way since to get any real improvement they would have to be engine width apart? Alternatively, you could substitute a bevel gear for the engine
pulley and then you would only need a pair of horizontal pulleys.......................... And then onto theoretical Physics..
