To return to the original question for a moment.....

For upright cooling (T1 fan?) can you not use an alloy T1 pulley but with the centre machined for the T4 fan hub. Is this not the DIY way?

If so, could you not use a steel Berg pulley rather than a cheap alloy T1 pulley?
