BAS Road Racing Exhaust
Has anybody run one of these systems for a type 1?
![]() I have heard rumours that they don't fit too well and can come loose. This is a pity 'cos I really like the look of them and they seem to offer plenty of ground clearance. Any advice?

Hello,
I just have bought this type of system. I will mount it on a stock width 1915cc. Didn't run the engine yet (it's off the car) but I tried to fix it on the heads, exactly from the same curiosity, to see how the flanges fit. I can assure you that they fit just perfect (without gaskets and by simple nut tightening, any gap between the head flanges and the exhaust flanges is eliminated on all four ports. Maybe I'm too lucky or maybe the problems arise after I start the engine! Anyway, I don;t think that any problem will appear because all the primary tubes have an independent movement between them (the tubes are slip-in at three points with helper springs BUT it isn't clearly seen on the pictures). I hope that it will behave perfectly also after the firing up! By the way, do you have any suggestions of what can be done for using warm air for heating? |

I'm affraid that the problems that I have heard of come after driving the car. I posted this message on a couple of forums (STF and VZI) as well and have already had a reply from somebody that has just thrown one of these systems away!
Apparently the weight of the system makes it shake itself loose when driving about. He did say that you could probably fabricate up some rubber straps or something to support it all a bit better but he couldn't be botherd. As far as heat goes, I was gonna get an erberspacher (spelling?)bn2 petrol heater, but now may get a CSP Streetsport exhaust and a couple of Hi-po heat exchangers.

I've used this system and was totally happy with it. Only thing was, I had to modify it to fit a dry-sump pump but otherwise it fitted just fine.
You can use the straps that come with the kit but be sure to weld them properly and they'll last for ever (well almost ![]() I even used this system in my old racer, worked good. Hope to have helped, Cheers, Richard |
