drum moves in and out.......

Here's one for the pros.
Doing the final install of the notch motor yesterday and had the rear of the car jacked up - rear wheels off the ground - and I grabbed the pass. side rear tire to get up off the floor and it moved - outward !
Like if I grab it again - there is definite movement in and out. As if the axel is sliding around - in and out of the transmission. It's not a ton of play but enough that it's noticeable.

Any ideas ?

Thanks, Dan

Not sure if you have a swing or IRS but on my IRS, when its jacked up, I can move my axle in and out by about an inch (Axle nut loosened). It does not move though when I put on the drum and tighten up the axle nut.

Hope this helps.

Hello-

Your axle nut is loose. If it is completely torqued and still has this play, then inspect the threads.

Take care,

I just got off the phone with an old friend who made mention of the fulcrum plates. He said "you didn't pull out on the axle when the bearing cover wasn't bolted to it did you ?"

Which I don't --think-- I did........

He said a fulcrum plate may have fallen out...

any feedback on that ?

Dan
