Custom control arms?
I was looking a the pics "Die Luftwaffe" and something caught my attention in regards to the front suspension of this car. Look at the last pic of the set (it shows the front suspension) you can see he is using a 1303 control arm...but the ball-joint is out in space...it appears to be a bolt or 2 on the inside bottom of the control arm. Is it my imagination or does this car have bolt on ball-joints instead of the press-in type? And if it does have bolt-on units is he using a set from a 944 (I would love to know how he did this and how well its holding up)? I was thinking of tweeking a set of control arms to use the 944 ball-joint (would save the hassle of purchasing parts from Germany). Has anyone done this conversion?

What I can tell, from looking at the picture so this is opinion not fact, is that he has machined off the end of the 1303 control arm then drilled some holes and bolted on a Porsche 928 ball joint to it.

I have modified stock control arms to take 944 bolt on ball joints.
They were the later ('74) ones though. I cut the ends off, made plates to take the Porsche part, and welded them back on. No problems with them whatsoever. |
