You can go to local junk yard to get rims, but they usually want real money for them.

Let the local rim places know what you want, they may be able to get some as take off's from someone else's car.

Ebay works also, but you need to get good pictures of each wheel.

BUT I have to say, you should get what you want to start out with, other wise you end up paying twice. I put porsche 993 17's on my 911, talked to wheel enhancement, wanted $1300 for a set with tires. I figured I could do better. By the time I got done with swaps, painting rims, buying tires, getting them mounted, etc, I was into them for about $1150. Big savings, not, and alot more effort.

check out the classifides at www.vwvortex.com. A lot of VW guys that are ditching the stock wheels to go with aftermarket items, so they sell them there.

Also, there's ebay.

go talk to your local dealer also. you go down there enough and bug the hell out of them and they will eventually get you something to make you go away.

Tire Rack has ads in the water-cooled mags offering trade-ins. I would think they have a Web site.

Also, blanket the VeeDub sites with wanted classifieds. This method hasn't netted me a Super Beetle I want yet, but I do get responses.
