Other brake conversions
Well, I've been looking thru the posts here and don't think I can find a 944 turbo lying around waiting for me.
I know it's been sneered at, but what would I need to put golf disks on my '71 (1302) super? I'm more concerned with working better than the stock drums I already have than going full bore super-duper overkill. I just think that it would be easier to find the parts locally, and I know a guy who has a really nice set of 18" wheels that would bolt on to the smaller 4 bolt. Anyone have suggestions where I could find this info? I have adjustable struts on the front, and don't want to give them up for 1303 ones, either. |

there are various disk conversions i have seen on here...vw, subi, omni, bmw, porsche, etc. just refine some searches based on that. also, why not just go for ghia discs in the rear? you would already have the front taken care of and they are more than adequate for most street usage. if it is just for the challenge, then i undrestand. you could also consider 944NA. they are pretty abundant in the junk yards. then there is always Ebay and the online classifieds here and at Pelican, STF, etc. doesn't matter where you are then.

Besides being one of the sponsors here -- a plus in my way of thinking -- they make billet hubs for any application of wheel fitment using Bug and Golf IV components. You would have Golf IV brakes even though you would commission them to make the earlier generation Golf four-bolt pattern. Although somewhat pricey, keep in mind their prices are in Canadian dollars. FWIW, I'm leaning in that direction myself except using the 5-100 bolt pattern. I see no need to go with a 1303 strut. In fact, I thought there were fitment differences anyway. One thing you may want to consider, however, is the offset of the wheels you have in mind. It may be necessary to get a spring which will coincide nicely with your Adjust-A-Struts (or whatever adjustable struts you have going), your desired wheels, and fitting the kaboodle under your fenders without fouling them. Topline makes a Sports+ spring which is tapered to allow more variety of offsets. Jon at Topline and Lanner at VDubCustoms have been very helpful with me in sorting out my needs in tire sizes, wheel offsets and other options. I hope to be supporting both in the near future.
