Brakes for my bus
i have aquired a full set of porsche 924s brakes for my bus
alloy trailing arms the lot and a set of 4pot brembos from a later 944 can anyone tell me what discs i need to get this lot to work together as i've been told the brembos need a thicker disc than the sliding calipers do Cheers Rob |

Rob,
Busses have the aerodynamic profile of a brick wall, you don't need brakes. It'll slow down naturally. ![]() The 924s brakes are easy. For the front, you can use those hubs with some bearing spacers to fit onto your bus spindle. You'll have to fabricate some caliper brackets. The rear will bolt on it you get an IRS kit from some of the vendors. The only issue will be the ebrake cable. The Brembo's require the thicker rotors, and will not work with the thinner rotors. cheers, its a 73 bay.
i'm converting the rear to irs (i know the bay has irs as standard) using some bolt on brackets, that get welded once your wheels are aligned. from what i gather the 4 pot brembos are off a 944s, since i have to make a caliper bracket anyway cant i use the 944s discs on the earlier hubs |

The 86T rotor will technically fit onto the early NA hub, but the NA hub is fatter (greater distance from the wheel face to rotor face) than the 86T hub. So, the rotor will be too far inboard and run into all kinds of things. The only turbo setup that is relatively easy to adapt to T2's is the 86T. The later hubs have way different bearings and therefore would require a whole-lotta machining to fit the T2 spindle. If you want to use the 4-piston brembo's, you have to get the 86T hubs and rotors.

I was looking at this link would it be possible to machine the outer edge of my hub down to the same diameter as the 89-91 S2 and use their rotors bolted to the front of my hub as they look the same height in the pics i know i will have to weld a bit of alloy on and drill and tap for mounting the rotor thats not a prob How much smaller in diameter is the S2 hub cheers for the replys so far Rob |

Rob,
The 87+ hubs are about 155mm in OD, while the earlier 944/924S are alot bigger, about 165mm. I don't think it would be safe to machine that much off the hub, because you will start breaking into the reinfocing webs in the hub. Lanner |
