WBX weak links?

Other than the head studs (Raceware takes care of this I'm told), coolant choice (buy it from VW), and humping around a huge brick most of its life, what are the weak links in the WBX engine? I'm building up a 1.9L and am looking for suggestions on what to modify, replace or look out for.

Thanks

Hi

You've listed most of the bad ones. I had 2.1 in my bug, the only problems I had were 2 water pumps and the odd hose. When one water pump failed it gouged into the block, yuk.

Getting the pushrods to seat in the lifters can be chore if the motor is in the car, its not a problem if the motor is in a stand and you rotate the 90 degrees. Get it wrong and you will bend a pushrod.

Hi

I broke up and sold the WBX powered 1302 and with the 1303 I wanted a fresh start, I also felt that I was getting to the end of the stock motors development unless I spent lots of money on it. The subi is 21st century motor that has lots of potential.
