If the damage isn't too bad, you can wire it up yourself.

My super has gone through 2 engine fires since '82. I remember them as a kid.
-One time was while we were driving(probably same issue as you).
-The other time, my mom couldn't get the bug started. When my dad got home from work, he poured some gas down the carb(done it before), and tried to start it. Looked in the rear view mirror and saw flames. Took awhile to find a neighbours garden hose as the bug was parked on the street away from the house(no driveway, downtown).

Took the fire extinguisher out of my super when the 2332 blew up. After reading this, i'm getting it back it in the bug tommorrow.

No biggie, get it together for SpringFling!
