Ed,
Dang, really sorry to hear about this! Wiring the engine compartment is fairly straight forward. Depending on what sort of auxillary junk and accessories are wired in, there should really be under 10 main wires to contend with. I've had mixed experiences with Arno's personally (last was about 4 years ago). Remember, nobody cares more about your car than you do. Alex

JB Weld that nipple back into the carb, and get her going! Let's see it at SpringFling.
Tell the Insurance adjuster there is an independant shop in town called "Boxer AutoGruppe", and they can fix it for beer! Pete

I'd give it a go myself, knowing that there aren't a ton of wires involved. But since I'm not really familiar enough with the engine bay, I'd need a hand, or at least another car to look at as reference.
If I were to get it fixed up mechanically, I guess I could just roll it minus the engine lid, and clean up the rest as good as I can. Anyone have a rear window for a 67? cheers Ed N.

ugly but fixable, Pull the decklid and sand it down with a temporary flat black paint job.
rewire is the easy part

I had a couple minutes of hurry up and wait at work so I checked in ... sorry about the car-b-que. I'm blocked here (at work) from seeing pics from free sites like photobucket and imageshack. I hope it is as rebuildable as others are saying, and the insurance doesn't prove to be a hassle. Good luck.

Chris, that would be a larger glass I believe, thanks for the offer though. As it stands I'm waiting to see how the insurance adjuster wants to handle it. Don't know if they will put a dollar amount on the total repair, and cut a cheque for that, or if it has to be done at a licensed shop.
thx, Ed N. |

Ed,
That looks pretty nasty. It looks as though the carb has melted a bit (return spring hangar drooping) However, the engine looks to be a very original arrangement, it even has the 67 carb bracket! Very cool car Ed! I say keep those rims! Original is bad-ass. The wiring will be a cinch. Keep us posted on how the claim is handled and help is here if you need it! Alex

Well, the insurance appraiser was by, all he did was snap a few photos, take down some info, and tell me to get an estimate for the repairs to fax to him. So I have the manager from one of the body shops we deal with coming by in a few hours, and then I have to decide what to do as far as the mechanical & electrical.
I asked the appraiser if I would be allowed to do the repair myself, and he said that would fine too ... would just have to fax him an estimate. So, maybe I can discuss it with some of you guys on Saturday, and decide on a course of action. Alex, I don't mind the stock 67 wheels, I added the trim rings on Saturday to dress them up a bit. Not really a fan of wide whitewalls, but they look OK on this car I think. I have a few different vintage looking wheels in mind, I may do something with that next year. Looking at the car on the weekend before the flame-up, I was going to be content with rolling it as-is for the summer. cheers Ed N. |
