Hi,

it seems that the tranny that you have might be a 911/01. This type normally has a pulled type clutch and it´s fork sits in a different place. The lever you have is from an old 901-gearbox....

it really can happen. Know it from Porsche 915-gearboxes, where it happens sometimes.
What type of gearbox do you have?
If it was a Porsche-gearbox the problem is easy to solve.

Type III

the type 3 can also be converted to 5-speed. Already have had some customers who did it. Frank Slenders from Franky´s VW Service in NL did it with his car and also with a customer´s car that´s used...

the best gearbox for a conversion is the pre ´72 version with the shift mechanism at the nose cone (mainly 914 1.7). For this gearbox you do not need to buy different inside shift rods....
